Welcome to TechHope Transitions' latest newsletter. In this issue, we're excited to share our innovative THT Incubator Model, its recent international recognition, and the success of our summer program.
The THT Incubator Model: Empowering Ukraine's Tech Future
At TechHope Transitions (THT), we believe in creating lasting change in Ukraine's IT sector, especially for women and veterans. Our THT Incubator Model is a powerful initiative designed to help talented individuals unlock their potential. Drawing inspiration from top global universities and our deep industry experience, we've tailored a unique approach to address Ukraine's specific challenges and opportunities.
Key ingredients that make the THT Incubator Model a game-changer:
Learning by Doing: Real-world projects with U.S. and European companies provide hands-on experience and resume-boosting skills.
Championing Female Leadership: We're committed to 30% female representation at every level of our project teams, fostering inclusivity and empowerment.
Agile Methodology: Our program emphasizes flexibility, collaboration, and continuous improvement, preparing students for fast-paced tech environments.
Comprehensive Support: We offer mentorship, career advice, and access to networks, building a community where students can thrive long after graduation.
International Recognition
On July 2, 2024, our founder, Ganna Makarkina, presented the THT Incubator Model at the International Conference on Business, Economics, Marketing, and Management (ICBEMM-24) in Frankfurt, Germany. Her presentation, "International University-Based IT Incubators: Drivers of Empowerment for Women and Economic Growth in Ukraine," highlighted the critical role of women in the tech industry.
Ganna’s message was clear: Empowering women is not just about filling seats—it’s about shaping the future. By creating opportunities for women in Ukraine’s tech industry, we’re fostering innovation, growth, and a stronger economy. As Ganna put it, "Women are at the heart of the IT revolution in Ukraine, and their contributions are key to building a brighter, more inclusive future."
Looking Ahead
We're expanding our partnerships with universities, IT companies, and businesses globally. Together, we're building a vibrant ecosystem where Ukrainian women and veterans can excel in tech, make meaningful contributions, and pave the way for future generations.
Summer Session Success: Empowering Ukraine's Future Tech Leaders
We're thrilled to share the incredible success of our recent summer session in
partnership with the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine (NULES). Our two-week intensive program, held from July 15-29, 2024, welcomed 25 participants from diverse backgrounds. Students worked on three real-world projects, including a cybersecurity analysis for a fintech startup and a UX redesign for an e-commerce platform.
Under the expert guidance of Professor Maryna Nehrey and Dr. Vadym Shkarupylo, participants explored the Secure Development Lifecycle and tackled real-world challenges. Professor Maryna Nehrey commented, "The THT program bridges the gap between academic theory and industry practice. It's inspiring to see our students apply their skills to real-world challenges."
The impact of this carefully crafted program is evident in the overwhelmingly positive feedback from our students:
V. Osadcha (4th Year Student, Computer Science) described the course as "a true revelation," highlighting enhanced teamwork skills and English practice in a professional context.
P. Reminna (Masters Degree, Economic Cybernetics) called it "an eye-opening experience," praising the comprehensive curriculum. She has already secured roles in two US company projects and continues as a Business Analyst with BCM Professionals!
Z. Konievieha (3rd Year Student, Computer Science) emphasized the unique value of the program, noting it as "an experience that is not easily found, and especially not for free."
As we expand to other Ukrainian universities, including our upcoming collaboration with Kharzin University, we're excited to scale our impact. Our vision is to create a network of tech-empowered individuals across Ukraine, driving innovation and economic growth.
Women in Ukrainian IT: Breaking Barriers and Driving Innovation
The Ukrainian IT market is thriving with talented women who are breaking down barriers and tackling new technical challenges. Recent statistics are promising: according to the DOU.ua developers' salaries survey from December 2019, 13.64% of the 7,413 technical specialists surveyed were female.
However, the Big Survey of 2023 highlights ongoing disparities in the tech industry, with female software engineers experiencing higher rates of bias and discrimination compared to their male counterparts. This underscores the urgent need to address these systemic issues.
Growing Representation
The increasing proportion of women in tech roles suggests that "the success of the Ukrainian IT industry would be absolutely impossible without the amazing ladies of the industry," as noted by Anastasia Stefanuk. This growth is a testament to the changing landscape of the Ukrainian tech sector.

At TechHope Transitions, we are proud of our mission to foster an environment where the contributions of women are crucial to driving innovation and achieving excellence in technology. Our goal is to make Ukraine a leading example of an inclusive and progressive IT industry.
